Your Motivation Cannot Last

Most stopping smoking newbie's start out with great motivation; "I've stopped smoking!" they boldly declare to anyone who cares to listen. Well here are three reasons why this motivation cannot last.

Reason 1 – You are weak willed.

You are too weak willed to sustain your original commitment. Let's face it the majority of people just do not have the mental fortitude to see a tough job through; and quitting smoking can be tough unless you have the right help. If you are not mentally tough and have strong determination then your motivation will evaporate like a morning mist; but probably faster! To maintain your motivation you need support and a well planned program for stopping smoking.

Reason 2 – Your ‘friends' won't let you.

One of the toughest barriers you will face when giving up smoking is the pressure from your own friends. Known as peer pressure, your mates will constantly tempt you to smoke and ‘be one of the group' which will chip away at your motivation to stop smoking. They are not doing this to hurt you, it is just that the majority of people cannot handle it when someone in their circle shows they can be strong and quit smoking. It makes them feel inadequate themselves and they will subconsciously try to sabotage your efforts and undermine your motivation.

Reason 3 – Your life is too boring.

Many people smoke out of sheer boredom! When you are not hard at work what do you do with your time? Do you have absorbing hobbies or physical activity like sports? Do you occupy your hands and mind with interesting activity? If not, then you probably spend far too much time with nothing to do other than smoke to relieve the boredom. Boredom is a great de-motivator and, although you will not like it, you will smoke if you get bored. When giving up smoking it is essential to replace your boredom with engrossing activities, either mental, physical or both, so that you do not grab a cigarette simply to have something to do. Make your life more interesting and you will maintain your motivation better.
